Guitar Hero

My Guitar Heroes!

(inspired by this afternoon’s hogging of the Guitar Hero III console at J8’s Sony after math exams.)

1. Eric Clapton – Literally a living legend. Plays his blackie Fender stratocaster most of the time. Songs you should check out include Layla, Tears In Heaven, Before You Accuse Me, Lonely Stranger, Crossroad, Blue Eyes Blue, Sunshine Of Your Love(in Guitar Hero III)…. Just get his ‘Greatest Hit’ album and save yourself alot of trouble. Of course he was part of CREAM – his band. What a name. Arguably the best rock/blues guitarist ever. And the fact that he sings his songs too just makes him even greater.

2. Carlos Santana – Heard him play live just a month or so ago. Plays a brand of strong melodious world music inspired by his Latin roots. His newer collaborations with mainstream artistes like Michelle Branch, Rob Thomas brought him under the mainstream limelight. His real magic lies in his ‘older’ songs like Oye Como Va, Black Magic Woman(in Guitar Hero III), Jingo, Sambe Pa Ti, and so on. Get his greatest hits too, but there’s probably a few available to confuse you. Plays his own signature PRS on most days. Beautiful guitar. And contrary to popular belief, he sings! Even if it’s just chanting Jingoooo….. for the entire song. His band is called Santana too, if you’re wondering.

3. John Mayer – But why in the world JM? Well he’s got a wicked sense of humour, intelligent, writes beautiful songs, a high school geek, pretty sexy, fantastic guitarist, unique vocals, can’t read music of a score. I like him. He plays pop, blues, rock, soul, all into his own genre of music. Plays great covers too like Jimi Hendrix’s Bold As Love and Wait Until Tomorrow, Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Lenny, even Message In A Bottle by The Police. Great left hand. Totally eats up the fretboard when he plays. Just go download all his songs and watch his videos on Youtube. His a Fender Stratocaster dude too. From his own signature series to the the relic one, to the girly(but still pretty damn cool) one in the picture above. And he plays in band too – John Mayer Trio. All he needs to do is to stay off cocaine and he’ll be heir to Clapton.

The best of the rest of my favourites: Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Slash (Guns & Roses, Velvet Revolver), John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Edge (U2), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd).

Oh man, I need the game now.

I’m such a noob at the real one.

Oh yea.

October 5, 2007

I think it’s time i come up with this:

Things to do after exams

  1. Rest -Wake up, breakfast, then sleep again.
  2. Snap pictures – I’m a shutterbug.
  3. Travel -Germany, Switzerland, Italy and erm… and Penang by myself.
  4. Blog properly – Though i have no particular niche. Totally random most of the time.
  5. Bowl – Balls cannot be left in idle. Erm….
  6. Shop – New sneakers. And maybe some clothes. When was the last time i shopped…..?
  7. Learn new songs – Lifehouse. Actually learned how to play ‘You & Me’ during the exam period.
  8. Get a job – Depends on whether my mum needs temp staff over at ST.
  9. Foreign language – If time permits, Italian/Spanish or Malay. Or at least master the swear words first.
  10. Chill-out – Class outings, chalets, anything.
  11. Read a book – I’ve been stuck with ‘The World Is Flat’ by Thomas Friedman for like one year plus already.
  12. Train for NAPFA – I tell myself this all the time. But i only get better at skipping P.E. lessons year after year.
  13. Get a life – by completing the above mentioned.

Actually they have this post-exam thing going on on the class blog. But me thinking of buying new sneakers wouldn’t interest them anyway i think.

Haha.

Feels good to have the exams behind me.

J2s, i’ll see you guys after ur A’s.

Especially to 0605 – VAMOS!!

Hola! Glued to the TV of late, partly because i’m exiled at my Woodlands apartment in attempt to abstain from the PC, and get down to studying. Alas, these PC-less few weeks gave me such a renewed sense of excitement over Cable TV, and sheer anticipation of what is to come (on the programme guide).

Hail Starhub digital cable!

Hail!

Miami Ink would have made it to the top if not for them repeating the series already. And my mum was irked that shows like Miami Ink wasn’t PG, especially when impressionable young minds like mine tuned in to the show frequently. She thinks i’ll get tattooed and look like a thug next time.

Oh well.

Maybe she’ll suggest that i’d stop watching Prison Break soon, for you know, i might just be the first to break out of Changi. I think not.

I personally like 7. – being a rockstar.

Oh look what you’ve done, mass media.
